Become a Volunteer Reader

This is a picture of a girl reading aloud from a book.

Learning Ally™ provides audio access to books for people with print disabilities. Each year, volunteer readers add thousands of new titles in every subject and grade level to help ensure that Learning Ally™ members, like their friends and peers, have access to a huge range of titles from popular fiction and accelerated readers to the most current textbook editions.

All of Learning Ally’s audiobooks are first read by a volunteer that is an expert in the subject matter. The recording is then transferred into a specialized format that has been specially built with capabilities that allow the user to go to specific pages or chapters, place bookmarks and speed up or slow down the reader’s voice. Volunteer readers with expertise in school subjects such as Accounting, Mathematics, Medicine, and Spanish are especially needed.

Currently there is not a Learning Ally™ recording studio in the Lowcountry, but you can still volunteer from home through Learning Ally's Home Recording Program. Contact us for more information or visit Learning Ally's Home Recording Support Site.
